The
Serra Gelada Nature Park
Benidorm is a great beauty of nature separating the bays of
Benidorm
and Altea and presents nearly 6km of coastline of cliffs over 400 metres high.
The Serra Gelada Nature Park has protected areas of plants of exceptional value, hanging fossil dunes (aeolianites, over
a hundred thousand years old) and endemic botanical species.
There are unique beds of Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows (known as alguers by local seamen) at the sea, Isla Mitjana
that is a small island and the Benidorm Island which are adding a rocky reef (La Llosa) to the group of islands.
The Serra Gelada Nature Park is also the second most important area of sea birds in the Valencian Community. The waters
of the nature park is full of life and home to one of the few families of bottlenose dolphins living permanently in
Valencian territory.
